Illuminator Spotlight: Ramaa Ravi

Meet Ramaa Ravi. Ramaa is the Research and Evaluation Technical Analyst for the San Ramon Valley Unified School District. In her role, Ramaa works with teachers and administrators to utilize assessments, surveys, reporting and data analysis (just to name a few). In only her district’s initial year of implementation,  Ramaa has taken Illuminate reporting to the next level using the Business Intelligence (BI) tool track her district’s behavior incidents. We asked Ramaa a few questions to learn about what’s happening in San Ramon.

We created a data collection and reporting system to track behavioral incidents. The system allows the collection of data at an individual student level. It can then aggregate the data at  multiple levels and display the information along different dimensions using various criteria in real time. The end result has been uniformly appreciated for its ease of use while collecting data, as well as the organized presentation of information. The reports took some patience to build, but were fun to create and the results are amazing.

Built a Summary Assessment to track behavior

How are the BI Reports used in your district to help teachers and administrators?
The BI reports will be used by school sites to establish data based decision-making that aligns behavioral supports and academic instruction for all students and staff needs. The ease of use, ability to get pre-populated data for parent signature by office staff and real time reports were some of the most important features of the system. We are hoping this implementation will be able to improve the overall school behavioral climate. This could be evidenced by a decrease in office referrals, disruptive classroom behavior, suspensions, detentions and increase in student academic performance. By leveraging the capability in Illuminate, our district was able to save on the costs associated with the purchase and use of a new system. We would like to express our thanks to Franck Reyherme at Illuminate for providing direction in building this system using the BI tool. This school year, we are piloting at a few sites. The plan is to roll it out to the rest of the 36 schools by fall of 2016.

When you are not illuminating, how do you like to spend your time?
In my spare time, I like to listen to classical music, read philosophy books and volunteer in the community.
