Illuminate Education is a market-leading Software as a Service (SaaS) student assessment and reporting platform used by K-12 administrators and educators to measure, analyze, and subsequently improve classroom and school-wide learning.

Responsibilities

At eduCLIMBER, powered by Illuminate Education, we use technology to solve difficult problems in the education field.  We have one of the best SaaS solutions for K-12 education field and are looking to make it better with your help.  Our projects include 

  • Using data science and predictive analytics to maximize student success,
  • District-wide class placement for students, 
  • Finding ways to give teachers time with students instead of doing administrative work, and 
  • Improving parent engagement to enhance students’ holistic learning experience.

The eduCLIMBER application is built with PHP, Javascript, MariaDB, and SOA structure for many components. The successful candidate will have proven experience with these technologies, or comparable equivalents. S/he must be able to work both independently and in a team environment, and must be able to deliver under tight deadlines.  The role is for a full-stack developer, though most of the work is focused on the back-end of the application.

 

Qualifications

Required

  • 3+ years of professional experience, authoring/analysis/troubleshooting expertise, and relevant examples to demonstrate in the following:
    • Procedural and object-oriented PHP development in a LAMP environment.

    • MySQL/MariaDB/comparable, including PHP integration through PDO. 

    • Authoring basic DDL/schema changes following normalization rules.

    • Working knowledge of HTTP. Working with web resources and representations (JSON, XML, CSV, XLSX, PDF, etc.)

    • Working knowledge of ETL processes and/or comfort working with medium-large sized datasets.

    • Software maintenance, debugging, and regression testing.

    • Familiarity with VCS, preferably git(hub).

    • Experience in the core activities, knowledge areas, and foundations of software engineering.

    • Comfort working in an existing codebase in a Scrum environment; adapting to local coding standards, practices, and style.

  • A drive to always produce excellent work, alongside ability to work efficiently, respect for timelines, and agility when priorities shift.

  • Initiative-taking, self-directed, and accountable, alongside willingness to ask questions and take direction.

  • Places a high value on intellectual property and data ethics.

Preferred 

  • Working with open source libraries and frameworks (Zend, Symfony, Laravel, etc.)

  • Working with shell scripting.

  • Working with package managers (composer, apt, etc.)

  • Advanced pattern matching with PCRE.

  • Experience in static code analysis.

  • Experience in other communication protocols (WebSocket, AMQP, FTP, LDAP, etc.)

  • Unit testing, TDD, BDD.

  • Other programming languages (Python, Go, C, C++, etc.)

  • Implementing automated data transfer processes through APIs, SFTP, scraping.

  • Education technology, and/or familiarity with local, state, and national assessments and/or accountability.
