PALS
Essential screening, diagnostic, and progress monitoring for the fundamental components of literacy.

Research-Based Assessments with Strong Technical Adequacy
Administer PALS (Phonological Awareness Literacy Screening) three times a year, and use PALS Quick Checks for progress monitoring throughout. Immediately after administering, you get access to data for every student, showing which students are in need of additional reading instruction and what literacy skills to target for instruction and for intervention.
Formative Data that Drives Instruction
PALS offers meaningful data for the teacher to apply towards comprehensive literacy instruction.
- After administering PALS, teachers will know each student’s instructional needs in reading and spelling, as well as which students require additional literacy instruction (intervention)
- PALS Online account contains functions to group students for differentiated instruction

Instructionally Transparent
Many PALS tasks mimic instructional activities for the targeted skill being measured. Teachers can integrate assessment tasks into the regular classroom literacy block to collect data while observing students engaged in decoding words, spelling in a developmental sequence, and sorting pictures by sound.
Equivalent Assessment for Spanish-Speaking Students
PALS español identifies students’ literacy strengths in their native Spanish language to accelerate English reading and spelling development. Available for grades K and 1st - 3rd.

“Our PALS Plus Midyear Assessment and PALS Plus Spring Assessment experiences have given us invaluable information about our foundational literacy teaching. Our teachers are now equipped with the necessary data to differentiate and develop specific plans to meet the needs of all our students.”
