Principal Coaching

Service Overview

While the basic tenets of leadership are the same, the principal's role can vary greatly depending on a school's size, demographics, and available administrative support. Training for principals once they get the job also is a factor that leads to student success.

To ensure that all school leaders are improving teaching and learning at their site, Illuminate Education partners with school districts to provide job-embedded principal coaching.  

The coaching program is designed to build the capacity of leaders in order to engage in effective team-building as well as strengthen school cultures to coherently focus on student success and academic excellence. Illuminate Education coaching ensures that principals will continue to build a working knowledge of ways they can improve the efficacy of the teaching and learning, school culture and climate, and parent-community relationships.


The ever changing role of principal has come with new expectations, pressures, and risks. Principals are asked to be Instructional leaders, operational managers, social workers, case managers,  ambassadors to the community, yet few receive the appropriate support to fulfill their job duties with  the level of efficacy they hope for.  As part of Illuminate Education’s professional learning, principals will receive a one-on-one site-based customized support and plan to ensure they are prepared and have thought through all aspects of the very important role of principal to ensure all students reach their highest potential.

Abram Jimenez, Ed.D. works with site and district leadership teams to strategically support school improvement, strategic planning, and organizational development.  Dr. Jimenez engages leaders in comprehensive data-informed inquiry cycles to develop district and site systems for continued student success. Before joining Illuminate Education, Dr. Jimenez was the Chief of Schools in the San Francisco Unified School District, providing supervision and support to the staff while co-leading the development of the district’s School Quality Improvement System. Abram holds a B.A. in Political Science with a minor in Education from UCLA and a Doctorate from the University of Southern California in K-12 Urban Leadership.
