Service Overview

Workshops are available focused on the following topics:

Equity-Driven Leadership:

Many education leaders and teachers want to work effectively with historically underserved students, but lack practical strategies. This workshop will provide them with the information necessary to ensure that all students have access to an empowering education, thereby allowing them to “walk the equity talk.”

Building Resiliency in Students Through Transformational Teaching:

Many students arrive at school with “emotional baggage,” which makes it difficult for students to learn and for teachers to focus on instruction rather than on misbehavior. Resiliency-building instruction transforms classrooms into places where students can learn coping, survival, and conflict-resolution skills, while teachers can use the curriculum in creative, responsive, and empowering ways.

Classroom Management:

Weak classroom management skills cause many PreK-12 teachers to fail African American students academically, engage in unfair discipline practices, and push students into the prison pipeline.  This research-based, interactive workshop will equip participants with practical strategies that will strengthen their classroom management skills and improve their relations with African American students.

Dr. Gail L. Thompson is focused on helping to develop more racially equitable policies and programs within school districts. In her previous positions, Dr. Thompson has served as Wells Fargo Endowed Professor of Education at Fayetteville State University and board member on the African American Advisory Committee for the California State Board of Education. She has written six books and was awarded the “Distinguished Alumna Award” by Claremont Graduate University in 2009.
