Earlier this week, we shared videos of Illuminators thanking some of the teachers who have changed our lives. As we recorded those, we invited some of our incredible clients and partners to tell us about the special teachers in their lives as well. Here are the amazing things they shared.

Raymond Edwards is the Dean of Middle School at Chattahoochee Hills Charter School and one of our 2020 Illuminators of the Year! He would like to thank his sociology professor at Morehouse College for transforming how he thought about pursuing intelligence.

Amy McGovern is the PK-12 District Reading Specialist in the Wausau School District and one of our 2020 Illuminators of the Year! She would like to thank her 4th grade teacher who shined a light and made her believe that she could achieve greatly.

Daniel Sosa is the Director of Research, Assessment & Accountability at the Riverside Unified School District. Daniel would like to thank his 7th grade teacher who had confidence in him at a time when he didn’t yet have confidence in himself.

Gina Thompson is the Superintendent for the Yuma Union High School District. Gina would like to thank her high school English teacher who made her feel extremely valued as a student and gave her a sense of belonging.

Jennifer Kwan is the Data Support Clerk for the Monrovia Unified School District. Jennifer would like to thank her 9th grade biology teacher who gave her the tools to succeed in high school and beyond.

Lindsay Jones is an 8th grade teacher for the Capistrano Unified School District. The teacher Lindsay would like to thank is her cross country coach who helped Lindsay realize that students are more than just a number to teachers.

Brian Schum is the Coordinator of Instruction and Technology Integration at Lammersville Unified School District. The teacher Brian would like to thank is one of his old colleagues—someone who taught him that the most important part about teaching is the relationships you develop with your students.

Scott Jonard is the Principal of Community Outreach Academy Middle School. Scott would like to thank his high school history teacher who not only made learning fun, but also changed the way he approached learning.

Dan Bennett is the Education Technology Coordinator at Los Alamitos Unified School District. Dan would like to thank his middle school math teacher who believed in his abilities and challenged him to succeed.

Jen Maljian is an Instructional Specialist at the Monrovia Unified School District. Jen would like to thank her 4th grade teacher who showed her that teaching is about more than instruction–it’s also about the relationships built with students.

Kate Stewart is a 3rd grade teacher for the Paradise Valley Unified School District. Kate would like to thank her high school history teacher who always went above and beyond to engage students in learning.

Katie Woidneck is the Teaching and Learning Project Specialist for the Solona Beach School District. Katie would like to thank her high school Geography/AP History teacher whose passion for teaching inspired her to follow in his footsteps.

John Rastatter is a 7th grade math teacher for the Soledad Unified School District. The teacher that John would like to thank is his mother. John attributes his mother with giving him the greatest gift of all: resilience—the ability to be knocked down and get back up and realize that tomorrow is going to be a better day.

Nikki Brown is the Instructional Assessment Coordinator for Cherry Creek School District. Nikki would like to thank her grade school principal who gave her a safe and supportive environment for learning.

Adam Broten is the Curriculum Director in the School District of North Fond du Lac. Adam would like to thank his Kindergarten teacher who was always very kind, caring, and supportive.
