Comprehensive Balanced Assessment System
As districts embark on the journey of improving their district-wide system of assessments, some leaders may have difficulty visualizing how all of these various assessment components need to be assembled to deliver quality data to their stakeholders. (In particular, with regards to how an assessment system should be configured through the lens of multi-tiered system of supports or MTSS). Therefore, a detailed infographic was designed to represent the unique assessments required for each tier level to be delivered throughout the school year.
The concentric circle model is used to represent a time perspective of the school year starting at the 12:00 o’clock position and moving clockwise. The center of the concentric circles is Tier 1 denoted in green, Tier 2 in yellow, Tier 3 in red, with the outer ring in blue representing high-performing students. At the 1:00, 4:00, and 7:00 o’clock positions, you will notice black bands cutting across the tiers representing universal screening assessments slated for the fall, winter, and spring testing seasons of the year for all students.
District interim assessment is represented in the lighter gray bands traversing the tier levels and can be administered to all students as appropriate to match your district needs. Within the colored tiers, students will follow their unique assessment pathways with Tier 3 students receiving more intensive and diagnostic assessments to inform instruction.
