Session Title: Aggregate and Visualize Your Data

Session Description
Illuminate’s Business Intelligence (BI) Tool gives you the power to visualize your data and create advanced custom reports with complex logic and powerful calculations. An advanced reporting tool that requires strong technical skills, the BI Tool will open up almost limitless possibilities for reporting in Illuminate. Create custom pre-built reports that end-users can generate and iterate with the click of a button. Some of the more advanced functionality (e.g., custom input controls) require SQL, but the vast majority of reports created with the BI Tool are created without any SQL. By the end of the session, attendees will use the Illuminate BI Tool to create and share visually rich reports with district users directly in Illuminate using live data.

Prerequisites for the Session

  • Must have district-wide access to Illuminate and experience in creating custom reports in Illuminate (i.e., knowledge around using grouping, filters, calculations, and such in Illuminate custom reporting)
  • Must have reviewed BI Tool Guide
  • Must be comfortable writing formulas in Excel (or any other spreadsheet/database software)
  • Must be willing and able to dedicate time to learning the tool and building reports
  • Must complete the small tasks that will be emailed to registrants the week before the session

Session Description
Close your eyes for a moment and imagine this: It’s the beginning of a new year (or semester/trimester); Illuminate users click one button and instantly have access to multiple data points, all on the same page which allows them to make quick instructional or leadership decisions. Doesn’t this sound great? Come to this session to learn how to do this and more, including finding or filtering for groups of students who need intervention from existing pre-built reports, and then building custom reports (e.g., spreadsheet-formatted reports) from other data sets currently in your system. We will also be featuring the creation of report templates, performance bands, simple filtering, calculations, report sharing, and devote time to discover where data resides in your Illuminate instance and to build your own reports with assistance. (Note: this session will not include advanced filters, advanced calculations, windows, or translations.)

Prerequisites for the Session

  • Familiarity with basic navigation in Illuminate
  • Your district needs to have a stable nightly data import into Illuminate. This session is designed for those who know assessment data resides in Illuminate from state and local sources, but want to know how to pull it together into actionable form
  • Access to site-wide student roster would be advantageous

NOTE: If you have access to assessment data not currently residing in Illuminate (such as NWEA, F&P, BPST, iReady, etc.) and can bring it with you in .CSV format, we will describe the import process through Summary Assessment. Make sure all data sets include the student ID.
