Equitable Reading Outcomes for All: How to Implement the Science of Reading within an MTSS Framework

When educators follow the science of reading — the research on how students learn to read and how to teach reading skills most effectively — all children can successfully learn to read. This makes the science of reading a powerful lever for equity. Implementing the science of reading within a multi-tiered system of support (MTSS) framework ensures that all students receive explicit and systematic literacy instruction and that students at risk of reading difficulties receive timely, evidence-based intervention to support their growth.

In this on-demand webinar, Dr. Kim Gibbons provides guidance for implementing the science of reading within an MTSS to remove barriers to reading success. You’ll explore:

  • The critical elements of MTSS that must be in place to ensure all students have the skills, knowledge, and opportunities to become strong readers
  • The characteristics of effective literacy assessments for universal screening and progress monitoring
  • What’s missing in many popular literacy assessments
  • The use of systematic and explicit instructional strategies to drive improved literacy outcomes for all learners
