K-12 student achievement platform demonstrates commitment to interoperability, gives educators a 360-degree view of student progress
IRVINE, Calif. (Oct. 15, 2019) – Illuminate Education, a leading K–12 student achievement solution, today announced it is one of the first companies to earn the Ed-Fi Alliance Assessment Outcomes API certification, and is the only company to certify with Designation 5 status, meaning their system is able to write category and item-level outcomes while adhering to industry standards.
Ed-Fi Certification is a technical verification confirming that the Illuminate Education platform conforms to an Ed-Fi API standard for assessments, underscoring the company’s leadership and commitment to data interoperability. For educators, this means they will now be able to seamlessly combine data from the Illuminate Education assessment platform with student information system data and other sources systems, creating a secure, real-time view of student data.
Illuminate Education introduced Ed-Fi integration pilots with Boston Public Schools and Uncommon Schools earlier this year. Results from these early adopters will support and streamline the interoperability capabilities for Illuminate Education customers going forward.
“Illuminate’s integration with Ed-Fi has helped to solve interoperability challenges that our district experiences,” said Monica Hogan, Director of Analytics at Boston Public Schools. “Having access to data from multiple systems in one place changes how we’re able to use data to deliver insights to drive achievement and improvement.”
Founded by the Michael & Susan Dell Foundation, the Ed-Fi Alliance has developed a data standard and a set of tools, including a set of API’s (Application Programming Interfaces) and an ODS (Operational Data Store) free of charge, in order to deliver interoperability at scale to education agencies and ed-tech providers. “For too long, educators and administrators have been gathering and storing data in silos, making data difficult to analyze and use. We provide a standardized way for tech providers to make student data truly useful to impact teaching and learning,” said Cesare Tise, strategic partnerships manager at Ed-Fi Alliance.
Illuminate Education continues to embrace interoperability by securing industry-recognized standards. “We’re honored to work alongside Ed-Fi to achieve this designation. The Ed-Fi certification reflects our advanced ability to support the varying data needs that districts experience. This certification, along with our pledge to the Project Unicorn community, demonstrates our commitment to data interoperability within K-12 education,” said Jeremy Lupoli, vice president, technical integration strategy at Illuminate Education.

About the Ed-Fi Alliance
The Ed-Fi Alliance is a nationwide community of leading educators, technologists, and data advocates connecting student data systems in order to transform education. A not-for-profit organization founded in 2012, by the Michael & Susan Dell Foundation, Ed-Fi aims to boost student achievement by empowering educators with real-time, comprehensive insight into every student.
Ed-Fi technologies streamline data management in school districts and states across the country. By allowing schools to integrate data previously siloed within disconnected tools and software—and organizing it through a single, secure data standard —Ed-Fi solves one of the country’s most perplexing educational challenges: how to get a complete, accurate view of individual student achievement, so that every student can receive the support they need when they need it most.
